Welcome to Piddle Valley Vets, Puddletown, Dorset
Notice regarding our client visiting policies
Following some misinformation on social media recently, we wanted to update you on our current policies and where we stand with clients coming into the practice.
3 years ago, Covid restrictions were forced upon us and since then, a lot of things have returned to how they were, but we have learnt a lot and some things have found a ‘new normal’.
We have found that there are some benefits to not having every client in the building with their pet and some clients are still more comfortable waiting in the car park. But we also do appreciate that sometimes it is really important for you, as a pet owner, to be able to come inside with your pet, for example, to discuss any treatment that you need to continue at home or to look at x-ray images or for your pets end of life care.
Sometimes, for example for a routine vaccination, it works really well for a vet to meet you in the car park and then bring your pet into the consultation room on their own. Pets can pick up nerves from their owner, so, for example, if you are worried about needles, your pet will sense this and it can make them feel more unsettled. If your pet comes in for a vaccination with a vet (who can be supported by a trained assistant) then the whole process can be a lot smoother and a lot less stressful for your pet.
We are currently not using the waiting room as a waiting area for most appointments but clients are welcome to come into the reception area to pick up medication, make appointments or make payments.
Encouraging clients and their pets to wait in their car for their appointment has been a success other than just helping to reduce the spread of Covid.
- Nervous pets can wait somewhere they know and feel comfortable, without being surrounded by other animals, sometimes of other species, for example, a cat that is nervous won’t have an inquisitive dog sniffing the carrier
- Client confidentiality is greatly increased as clients don’t overhear conversations taking place with our reception team or with vets/nurses in the reception area
By limiting the clients that can come in, we are keeping the building as safe as possible for staff so that we can ensure we always have a team well and able to treat your pets and so that the clients that really do need to come in, can do so feeling as safe as possible.
Thank you to everyone that has been so understanding as we have navigated through such a tricky time.
